Well, here you go, something about… me. There isn’t much to say other than I’m the Senior Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Bristol, Tennessee, working with a group of good folks who are trying to figure out if there is, in fact, a better way to “do” church. I’ll let you know when I’ve got it figured out.
As suggested on the home page, I’m the husband of Rev. Eungyoung Kim, father of Sammy and Youngji. God has blessed me with a wonderful family and congregation that thinks the best thing about life is figuring it all out together.
If you are interested in the pieces of paper on my wall, I hold a B.A. from Berea College, with a dual major in Philosophy and Religious Studies. I hold a M.Div. from Union Presbyterian Seminary with a focus in Systematic Theology and Christian Ethics. I hold a Th.M. from Princeton Theological Seminary with a focus in Systematic Theology and Christian Ethics. Finally, I attained my doctorate (D.Min) from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary with a focus in Science and Theology. My dissertation was entitled, For the Beauty of the Earth: Faith, Ecology, and Care. You can find a copy under my “Articles” tab.
Previous to my current engagement as Senior Pastor/Head of Staff at FPC Bristol, I was the Senior Pastor/Head of Staff of the First Presbyterian Churches of Maywood and Moonachie, as well as the United Presbyterian Church of Lyndhurst. I moved to New Jersey after fulfilling a term as the Director of English Ministry/Head of English Ministry Staff at the Presbyterian Church of the Lord in Seoul, South Korea, a 10,000 member mega-church in the Jamsil region of Seoul. Prior to that, I was the Pastor of the Douglas and Bethlehem Presbyterian churches in Farmville, VA. Before that, well, my memory gets kind of hazy…
As far as being a “sometimes fisherman, sometimes poet,” well, let’s just say I’ll keep trying…
